Solution-Based Management - Nortel’s SMB product portfolio offers a unique management experience through the Business Element Manager (BEM) which enables the management of all Nortel SMB products within a single platform. BEM provides a user-friendly interface and many powerful OAM features.
Support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) - The Business Ethernet Switch 1000 family comes equipped with support for Power Over Ethernet (PoE) on the BES 1020-24T PWR and the BES 1020-48T PWR. These products have the capability to provide power to devices such as Voice Over IP handsets or wireless access points, which makes it easy and simple to add devices.
Convergence Ready Functionality - Prioritization of the data on the network is essential in order to ensure that mission critical applications such as voice are delivered in a timely manner and treated differently to non-time sensitive data. To ensure that data is properly classified into 4 different hardware queues, the Business Ethernet Switch is able to put traffic into different priority queues by reading a packet’s 802.1p or DSCP prioritization value. Servicing each of the priority queues can be done by either using the Weighted Round Robin or Strict Priority queuing methods.
Built-in Security Features - Through support of 802.1X, control of access into the network is delivered directly from the switch to a RADIUS server. Additionally, support for SNMPv3 provides a secure management method for network administrators.
